Engagement Session Outfit Guide

Your engagement session is a chance to celebrate your love story and create timeless photos together. What you wear plays a big role in how confident and natural you feel in front of the camera. This guide will help you choose outfits that look amazing while still feeling like “you.”

1. Dress for the Season and Location

Think about the backdrop we’ll be shooting in:

Spring/Summer: Light fabrics, flowy dresses, soft pastels, or neutral tones.

Fall/Winter: Warm layers, cozy textures (knits, scarves, jackets), earthy colors.

Urban or Industrial: Sleek, modern outfits, darker tones, bold pops of color.

Nature/Outdoors: Soft neutrals, earthy shades, and clothes that move easily.

2. Coordinate, Don’t Match

Instead of identical outfits, pick complementary colors. If one of you wears a patterned piece, the other can choose a solid that ties in. Aim for a balanced, cohesive look rather than twinsies.

3. Neutrals & Soft Colors Always Win

White, beige, gray, navy, soft greens, or muted blues photograph beautifully and keep the focus on your connection. Avoid super bright neon colors or heavy logos, as they can distract from your faces.

4. Dress Up a Little

An engagement session is the perfect excuse to elevate your look. Dresses, jumpsuits, or button-downs and slacks feel timeless. Flowy pieces add beautiful movement to photos. Bring an extra pair of comfy shoes if we’ll be walking a lot.

5. Accessorize & Layer

Scarves, jackets, hats, or jewelry can add personality and variety. Layers also give us more posing options—like slipping on a jacket for a new look mid-session.

6. Comfort = Confidence

The most important rule: wear something that feels good on you. If you feel confident in your outfit, it will show in your photos.

7. Bring Two Outfits (Optional)

Many couples like to have one casual look and one dressy look. This gives variety and helps tell more of your story. We can plan the session so there’s time to switch.

8. Personal Touches

Want to include your dog, a shared hobby, or something that represents your story? Feel free to bring props or accessories that are meaningful—it makes the photos uniquely yours.
